Our Story

Winsbury Farm has been farmed by 5 generations of Beavans. Since 1921!

We are passionate to keep developing and adapting our practices as we learn more about farming sustainably, utilising the different seasons to make the most of the amazing land we are so fortunate to farm to ensure our girls remain as happy and healthy as possible as happy cows produce the best milk. We believe the happiness of our girls is the secret ingredient to our delicious, nutritious pasteurised milk.

Our Farm

Our milking parlour is run off solar panels and we are passionate about sustainability in every way possible including moving away from single use plastic bottles whereever possible, which is why we use reusable glass bottles.

"I feel blessed to have been brought up in the beautiful Shropshire mid-Wales countryside. I want to be a part of producing food for our country and care for the land and animals which we are so fortunate to farm."

Ellie Bevan

Our Girls

We milk approximately 250 cows twice a day, all of our milk comes straight from the girls the same day. Our girls spend the first 2 years of their life just growing big and strong. In the summer they roam the town hill with plenty of space to grow and play. They then have their first calf and become a cow and join the main milking herd. The rest of their time is spent eating and playing out in the fields – what a lovely life!

Once they join the main milking herd our cows are grass-fed for as much of the year as possible (weather permitting) and are free to roam making our milk high in protein and nutritious in omegas.  Our girls are bred for longevity, meaning we do not push for maximum yields, but instead more yields meaning our girls live a lot longer and less labour-intensive lives, also the cross breeding means our cows produce deliciously creamy milk! The milk is also rich in colour which is produced naturally as a result of carotene from the grass.

We split our fields into smaller paddocks of which the cows graze a different one every day. This allows the grass to grow really well and means the cows are eating the best quality grass they can be!

Overall we live by the ethos Happy cows = incredible milk!

Can you spot our girls grazing up the town hill in Montgomery?

Setting Up As A Business

Setting up a business is never easy, but I have found when you’re passionate about what you do and truly believe in what you offer you never look back!

I still find it amazing to see how far we’ve come since we started, how many people we have helped and how much amazing feedback we have received. It gives me so much enthusiasm for how far we can take Winsbury Dairy to make  a real positive change for the future. Having Dan on board joining the family in 2021 has been amazing and I couldn’t do it without him together were on a mission to provide wholesome, delicious food to all and we can’t wait what lies ahed this year and the exciting plans we have in place
